About Luka

Luka is an aviation cybersecurity specialist and lecturer.

Safety today is both physical and digital. With aviation systems more digitised and interconnected than ever, I believe we’re facing a new frontier in the fight against information security threats - and safeguarding against them is essential.

My Story

Aviation has captivated me from an early age. Growing up with parents in the industry, I was immersed in its dynamic world, developing a fascination that only grew over time. This lifelong passion inspired me to understand aviation from all angles, ultimately guiding me toward the specialised field of aviation cybersecurity, where my interests in aviation, technology, and safety intersect.

With a bachelor’s degree in Computer Networks and a master’s in Cybersecurity & Penetration Testing, I developed a solid technical foundation. During my studies, I focused on aviation system vulnerabilities and crafted strategies to safeguard both functionality and safety - an essential priority in aviation. This experience fuelled my commitment to addressing the unique cybersecurity challenges that aviation faces today.

In my career, I’ve had the chance to work across various sectors, but aviation has always been the area where my interests and expertise converge. As a Network Engineer, I secured network infrastructures across industries, including aviation, which helped me identify a critical gap: the aviation sector often approaches cybersecurity in isolated parts. Rather than treating aircraft, airline, and airport separately, I believe a unified, cohesive, and ecosystem-wide security approach is required.

My transition into cybersecurity consultancy at PwC broadened my understanding and gave me strategic insights into complex security frameworks. Now, as an Information Security Specialist, I lead the development and operation of an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that is ISO/IEC 27001 certified, bringing together security, compliance, and business objectives in a tangible way. I've also enjoyed lecturing computer networks at university level over recent years.

To deepen my expertise, I pursued specialised certifications from IATA in Aviation Cybersecurity and Operational Cybersecurity, learning from top professionals and gaining insights into the operational and regulatory demands of the aviation sector. These experiences strengthened my understanding of how cybersecurity and aviation safety must align in practice, beyond theory.

Today, I’m excited to contribute this knowledge and experience back to the industry. Recognising a gap in cybersecurity awareness among aviation professionals, I am developing training courses in aviation information security to empower organisations with practical skills in managing information security risks. My courses don’t just focus on the “how” but also on the critical “why,” building confidence in addressing EASA Part-IS compliance and bridging the divide between aviation safety and information security. I also write articles that address the industry’s latest challenges, which you can explore here on my site.

As I look to the future, I’m eager to continue making an impact in aviation cybersecurity. Aviation’s digital evolution brings new security challenges, and I’m determined to help organisations take a balanced, structured approach to safeguard both their operations and passengers. My goal is simple: to secure the future of aviation, making it resilient against today’s and tomorrow’s risks.
